Harmony Day 2012
In 2012, the Harmony Day theme is Sport - play, engage, inspire. This theme recognises the important role and positive influence that sport has in our multicultural nation. The continuing message for Harmony Day in 2012 is that Everyone Belongs, which means all Australians are a welcome part of our country, regardless of their background. It's also about community participation, inclusiveness and respect – celebrating the different cultures that make Australia a great place to live.
Here at Heathmont East Primary School, we value and enjoy a sense of closeness as a school community that makes HEPS a great place to learn. Our participation in Harmony Day 2012 aims to promote and maintain that atmosphere at HEPS.
We will celebrate Harmony Day at HEPS this year on Wednesday 28th March with a full day of activities including a performance by Valanga Khoza who will entertain and inform students with song, story and dance from Africa. Students will then participate in multi-age groups to explore other cultures in workshops including sport, cooking and craft. A final whole school activity to debrief and reflect on their involvement will conclude the day for our students.
We are hoping that you might be able to join us on the day as a volunteer helper in one of the many workshops (part of the day would also be great). If you are able, please complete the slip below and return it as soon as possible so that you can be allocated to a workshop. We are also in need of some Bocce sets and some pasta making machines so if you have these and are willing to let us use them on the day, please see Sue Fraser or leave a message at the office.
The cost of the performance and workshops is $6 per student.
