Japanese & Intercultural Studies
Japanese has a rich history at Heathmont East Primary School. For many years we have provided our students with an exciting and educational program.
From Foundation to Grade Six, students are engaged in language and cultural lessons in our colourful and welcoming Japanese room. Lessons are structured using the Early Years Framework, meaning that students rotate through a variety of engaging activities to develop their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. Technology is a strong component of the Japanese classroom, with students having the opportunity to use iPads, desktop computers, laptops and the Interactive Whiteboard.
Families are able to host interns from Japan who support the Japanese program. Students in Grade Five and Six have the chance to participate in an exchange program during which they spend two weeks in Japan with a host family. A lunchtime Japanese Club is open to students from all year levels to further develop their communication skills and their cultural knowledge. Our Japanese garden is a beautiful place for students to spend their playtime with friends.
