School Canteen 2020

Dear HEPS families,

Overseeing the efficient running of school canteens is one of the responsibilities of school councils and school canteens are not funded or subsidised by the Department of Education. The Department requires canteens to at least break even financially in order to remain viable and to not use funds that should be spent on providing the school’s education program. Our canteen is not used by families often enough, and sales are not high enough, to cover its own costs.

After extensive discussion regarding possible options and alternatives, school council has made the very difficult decision to close our canteen at the end of this year and to look at alternative food options for lunches and over the counter sales in 2020. Even though the canteen is not popular enough at HEPS to cover costs in its current operation, we understand that the canteen is a service that many children at HEPS, including our own, still enjoy. The outcome from these investigations will be shared in the new year.

School Council would like to thank our hard working canteen manager Vicki, who has run the canteen very efficiently over many years and has gone the extra mile to provide our children with a great service.

We would also like to thank our volunteer parents who have been a great support over a long period of time. Volunteers are vital to running a great school - if you would be interested in hearing about future volunteering opportunities regarding a food service at HEPS, please let school council know via or leave a message at the office.

On behalf of Adrian Sarris

2019 School Council President
