Heathmont East Primary school has an architecturally designed art room in beautiful surrounds. The art program is taught by a Visual Arts specialist and practising artist. A wide range of opportunities for the development of a diverse range of fundamental skills is offered to all students. The program covers drawing, painting, sculpture, textiles, printmaking, mosaics and ceramics.
Art history and appreciation are part of the program and are integrated into the practical work. Children also study the art of different cultures and that of international contemporary artists.
The art room is full of activity and creativity. The children have an opportunity to explore and experiment in order to express their individuality and find their authentic artistic voice. They are encouraged to discuss, problem solve, plan and develop ideas, self-evaluate and respect each other’s creative endeavours.
